I graduated from Bay High School in 1990. I played Division II volleyball at Crowley’s Ridge College before transferring to Arkanas State University, where I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood. I then decided I would love to learn more about helping struggling readers, so I attended Arkansas State Univerisity and earned my Masters Degree in Reading. I am currently working toward my Education Specialist Degree in Library Science with an emphasis in Leadership and Curriculum.
I also have attended many hours of trainings regarding Orton-Gillingham, a mulit-sensory approach for learning. I am certified as a Dyslexia Therapist.
I began teaching at Bay Elementary in 1996, in third grade, after a very wonderful teacher, Amy Osment, passed away. She had very big shoes for me to fill. I was the teacher the last nine weeks of the school year. That nine weeks taught ME more, than I taught the students. We cried together, we laughed together, but most importantly we LOVED each other.
The following years I taught Kindergarten, First Grade, 4th-6th Reading and then became the Curriculum Literacy Coach for Bay Elementary. In 2006, I was given the dream of a lifetime. I was offered a position with the Arkansas State Department of Education to be a Literacy Specialist for the state of Arkansas. I traveled around the state for 6 years helping many teachers and schools improve literacy instruction in their schools. Unfortunately this position kept me away from home for days in a weeks.
I then began working at Fox Meadow Elementary, there was not an opening at Bay at that time. I was a Reading Interventionist, over Response to Interventions and Dylexia Therapy to Students.
In 2017, while in Alaska on vacation, I received the best phone call ever. I was offered a position at Bay. Bay is home and I was estatic. I was screaming in the center of Juneu, Alaska, telling my husband “I am going home”!!!
I love Bay School, especially Bay Elementary!!!
I am married to my best friend, Fred Wilson. We met through mutual friends, and swore we were just friends to everyone. No one believed us...LOL On December 2, 2006, I became Mrs. Fred Wilson. The best day of my life. God gave me the patience to wait for the perfect man for me. I found him. You have to be a special man to be married to me….LOL…..He never knows where we are going, or what I have got us into. He just goes with flow, but he loves helping others as much as I do.
The day we returned from our desination wedding, we rescued a Jack Russell, we named Buddy. He was our child. He was human. he was our life for 12 years. Unfortunately, we lost Buddy in September of 2018. This is still very hard for us.
He gave us 12 GREAT years of unconditional love!!!
